Jet Washing Headlights

We all like to go to our local car wash to get our car washed but high pressure jet washers to wash a vehicle should be 1000 psi or lower with a 40 degree nozzle which has a wider spray pattern & not a laser like focused pattern. But most car wash places are now using well over 2000 psi which can strip off paint, break trims & even move the headlight out of place.

A high pressure jet wash of 2000 psi & above is normally used on concrete & Skippy recommends that headlights should never be high pressure washed at a close range we have also witnessed some car washing done with a 3000 psi machine to wash cars, it only takes 2500 psi to punch through human skin & can lead to water droplets on the inside of the lens. The best psi to wash vehicles should be between 600 psi to 1000 psi.

Effects of using very high powered pressure washers on headlights.

  • Can cause healight seals to break.

  • Water droplets in headlights.

  • May cause headlights to move out of place.

"I used to look like a deer in headlights on the red carpet. You step out of the car and it's bedlam. Everyone's got crazy eyes" Emily Blunt
