Headlight
crazing is something that
takes place inside the
polycarbonate plastic
headlight lens. This could
be micro-cracking or a
spider web-looking effect.
A common
issue on VW Golf mk7
vehicles & specific Porsche
models & we are seeing
headlight crazing more on the
latest vehicles.
Us
headlight restorers believe
strong UV light may cause
this, some say it is
because of the strong car
washing chemicals
that are being used & not
being properly diluted for
modern plastic lenses, some
even say the inside bulbs
can cause this but no one
exactly knows why. Some headlamp
crazing on headlights is not
visible during the day, but
at night you can see it once
the lights are turned on.
If the headlight crazing is
picked up in its early
stages then yes but if the
crazing starts to develop &
further penetrate through the
headlight lens
then NO.
Below are some pictures
so you can visualize what headlight
crazing looks like. In most
cases the
headlight lens will need to
be replaced.
Advice - If you are buying a
used car please switch on
the headlights in the
evening as some headlight
crazing can only be seen
with the lights turned on & most car
dealerships will hide this
defect from customers.
